The “Doom fire” screen-saver trick spread through ’90s demos: a 1D heat buffer blurred upward with jitter, then colour-mapped—no real fluid sim, just a cellular automaton that looks alive. PC intros and BBS-era source dumps made it a rite of passage; here it runs on a 320×200 grid in Canvas 2D with ByteFern’s green–lime–cyan ramp and pointer-drawn hot spots.
